angle-left Basilica has kicked off Lent with “Sent la Creu” mass
This year’s cross comes from Cambodia to raise awareness of land mines

On Sunday 10 March the Sagrada Família hosted the “Sent la Creu” mass, which commemorated the beginning of Lent and shared this time with the youngest members of the diocese. The mass was led by Cardinal Joan Josep Omella i Omella, Archbishop of Barcelona, with auxiliary bishops Sergi Gordo and Toni Vadell, and the apostolic prefect of Battambang, Cambodia, Mons. Enrique Figaredo SJ.

The cross that presided over the mass also came from the same country, as a symbol of the harm land mines cause to its people. A problem this mass celebrating the beginning of Lent hoped to raise awareness of. The mass, in fact, featured personal stories from individuals who have first-hand experience of the disastrous consequences of land mines in Cambodia.
