angle-left Sagrada Família invites people to share in Easter Week

The Sagrada Família is preparing to experience Easter Week with the people through a programme of religious events and activities from 26 March through 10 April 2023, sharing the religious, cultural and popular significance of this liturgical season. The “Sagrada Família is Easter" campaign features a photo of the Ecce Homo sculpture on the Passion façade, by sculptor Josep Maria Subirachs.

The programme will include the traditional Easter Concert, family workshop and religious services: Palm Sunday mass, Paschal Triduum and Via Crucis. Returning this year are the special Easter Week illuminations on the Passion façade, telling the story of the Passion and death of Jesus Christ.

ORFEÓN DONOSTIARRA EASTER CONCERT

On Sunday 26 March at 11:00 am, the Basilica will fill with music by Orfeón Donostiarra, a choir institution founded 125 years ago in San Sebastián. Directed by José Antonio Sainz Alfaro and accompanied by Juan de la Rubia on the organ, the group will perform a repertory of pieces by artists like Handel, Verdi and Mahler, among others, as well as some in Euskera, such as Basque composer Tomás Garbizu’s Ave Maria. This performance will highlight the group’s versatility and the excellence achieved over its long history.

This concert is also possible thanks to the collaboration of TUI experiences, a platform that allows travellers from around the world to book thousands of excursions, activities and tickets for tourist attractions in over 100 countries.

To include residents in this experience, the Sagrada Família is holding a draw to give out 300 tickets for two for the concert. Anyone interested can enter the draw using the form on the Sagrada Família website or on social media from 10:00 am on 14 March to 10:00 am on 20 March. The draw will be held on 20 March and the winners will be notified by email in the following days.

EASTER WORKSHOP

This year, the Sagrada Família is offering an Easter children’s workshop for families with kids between 5 and 11 years old, as a fun way to discover the meaning of Easter. The workshop includes a guided tour of the Temple starting with

the Nativity façade and finishing on the Passion façade, a great opportunity to discover all the different parts of the Basilica. They will also enjoy a discovery game on the Passion façade,

where they will have to do several challenges, and then finish up by decorating chocolate eggs in an activity led by a student of the official pastry school with collaboration from the Chocolate Museum.

ILLUMINATION OF THE PASSION FAÇADE

On 3, 4 and 5 April at 8:45 pm and 9:30 pm, the Passion façade will once again be lit up to share the story of the Passion and death of Jesus Christ through music and text written by Mons. Antoni Vadell i Ferrer. With this activity, the Sagrada Família is remembering the deceased priest who was auxiliary bishop of Barcelona from 2017 to 2022.

The first session, at 8:45 p.m., it will be in Catalan and the second session, at 9.30 pm, it will be in Spanish.
