angle-left New Sagrada Família Open Doors Days with sculptures of the tetramorph that will crown the towers of Luke and Mark on display

On 23 and 24 September from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and 25 September from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, the Sagrada Família is holding its Open Doors Days during Barcelona’s main feast day, the La Mercè festivities.

The Sagrada Família is preparing for this annual event, which shares the current state of the works with the people. This time, 15,000 people will have the chance to visit the Basilica for free and get a look at the sculptures of the tetramorph that will crown two of the four towers of the Evangelists, the tower of Luke and the tower of Mark, and find out how they are being built in an audiovisual piece.

As part of the central group of towers, the four towers of the Evangelists will surround the tower of Jesus Christ, standing 135 metres tall once finished. To identify which evangelist each tower represents, there will be sculptures with the figure of the tetramorph, with a book and wings. These figures have been used for centuries to represent the evangelists in Christian iconography, art and architecture. So, the tower of the Evangelist Mark will be crowned with a sculpture of a winged lion, a symbol of power, courage and royalty; and the tower of the Evangelist Luke will be topped with a sculpture of a winged ox, a calm, humble beast of burden.

Anyone interested in attending the Open Doors Days must enter the draw to win tickets between now and 19 September at 10:00 am on the website or social media. The draw will be held on 19 September at 10:00 am and the winners will be notified directly by email.
