Installation of the pieces that make up the cross on the tower of Jesus Christ at the Sagrada Família continues advancing according to schedule. After the lower arm went in on 30 October and then the core that unites all the arms, today the first horizontal arm was put in place, facing the Nativity façade. The second arm, the one oriented toward the Passion façade, will be installed soon.
The arms feature the double twist geometry that characterises the whole piece. The inner end, connecting with the core, is octagonal and the outer end is square. Each piece weighs roughly 11.3 tonnes and measures 4.4 metres by 4.5 metres by 4.5 metres.
The remaining three arms are expected to arrive over the coming weeks. Once on the platform 54 metres above the ground, they will be prepared for installation by putting in the windows and doing other works inside before final assembly on the tower pinnacle.
Coinciding with the hundredth anniversary of the death of Antoni Gaudí, the culmination of the tower of Jesus Christ will be a historic milestone for the Sagrada Família and a tribute to its architect. There will be commemorative events held all year. The programming is available on sagradafamilia2026.org.
