This morning, the Social Action Fund (SAF) held an event presenting the resolution of its first call, promoted by the Junta Constructora del Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família Foundation. It brought together the organisations that have been awarded grants, the members of the SAF Committee, members of the Junta Constructora de la Sagrada Família Board of Trustees and Ex-officio President of the Junta Constructora, Mr Esteve Camps, Executive Chairma, Cardinal Joan Josep Omella i Omella, Archbishop of Barcelona, who gave a speech to close the event.
An impact of €2.3 million within the Archdiocese of Barcelona
The SAF aims to jointly fund social projects and initiatives promoted by non-profit organisations that work within the Archdiocese of Barcelona and strive to help cover the social needs and demands of society today. The amount awarded in this first call went to organisations in 21 cities: Alella, Argentona, Badalona, Barcelona, Cabrera de Mar, Cabrils, Caldes d’Estrac, Cornellà de Llobregat, el Masnou, Esplugues de Llobregat, l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Mataró, Montgat, Premià de Mar, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Sant Joan Despí, Teià, Tiana and Vilassar de Mar.
By areas of impact, 27% of the projects receiving funding are working to fight poverty and social exclusion, 25% in the field of health and personal autonomy, 23% focus on children, adolescents and young adults, 18% on the elderly, and 7% on migrants and refugees.
The SAF has increased the amount earmarked for the 2024 call to €3.5 million, 50% more than this first call
The consolidation of economic recovery in recent years has allowed the Junta Constructora de la Sagrada Família to launch this initiative, which is in line with the Temple’s values. For the first call, €2.3 million was earmarked for the grants and this amount is expected to increase in the coming calls, taking into account that the Foundation’s surplus funds this social action.
