angle-left Sagrada Família educational programme gains in participants and prepares new options for next academic year

The Sagrada Família educational programme aims to promote the values that represent the Basilica and raise awareness of Antoni Gaudí and his work. Expert advisers, teachers, schools and cultural institutions collaborate on the Basilica’s educational projects.

The number of educational visits increased again this academic year, with a total of 129,357 students taking part in 5,053 educational visits. This is roughly 25 students per group/class and 9% more students in total. Most of the groups were from secondary schools.

Noteworthy this year was the origin of the students: while 34,719 were from schools in Catalonia, this year there were also international students from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands and the United States.

Regarding the options, this academic year there were several activities to build a network with the schools in Catalonia. One of them was the contest “Be the word that builds humanity”, associated with the inauguration of the towers of the Evangelists. This activity aimed to spark debate in the classroom on the value of dialogue and then have students reflect and work as a team to achieve a shared goal. Another noteworthy activity this academic year was the technology workshop, offered to secondary students for the first time this year, which gave participants a technological view of the design and construction of the Temple.

Furthermore, in October 2023, a pilot programme was run to implement an Integrated Art project. It was a collaboration between the Basilica and several neighbourhood schools to provide guidance for teachers working on art projects that include different areas of knowledge. For the next academic year, work on the Integrated Art project will continue at early years and primary schools. This project aims to foster a new teaching method that integrates various areas of knowledge through art.
