In Madrid on Thursday, 8 October, Mr Esteve Camps, Executive Chairman of the Junta Constructora de la Sagrada Família and deputy coordinator of the organising committee for Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Barcelona, and Fr. Enric Puig, SJ, coordinator of the organising committee for the visit, accepted the Religión en Libertad award given to the committee that organised the Holy Father’s Apostolic Journey to Spain.
This award from Fundación Nueva Evangelización para el siglo XXI, publisher of the website Religión en Libertad, recognises the committee’s work to coordinate and prepare for Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Spain from 6 to 12 June 2026. It was awarded jointly to the Archdioceses of Barcelona and Madrid, the dioceses of the Canary Islands and Tenerife, and the Spanish Episcopal Conference, all of which hosted and coordinated the Pontiff’s first major Apostolic Journey.
Representing Barcelona, Esteve Camps attended the awards ceremony with Fr. Enric Puig, SJ. Both men were part of the team that organised the Holy Father’s stay in the Catalan capital, as part of the central event to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of Antoni Gaudí’s death.
