The Sagrada Família became the focal point of popular culture today with the celebration of a parade of giants, held as part of the festivities marking the completion of the Tower of Jesus and the commemoration of the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s death.

The event brought together hundreds of participants and numerous giant groups in a parade that passed through several of the city’s most iconic locations before arriving at the Basilica, which served as the central stage for the final celebration.

The parade began at Casa Batlló with a musical performance and institutional speeches, from where the participating groups set off on the festive route. The procession then continued to La Pedrera, where additional figures joined the parade, including the Antoni Gaudí giant from the Riudoms Giant Bearers Association, further reinforcing the connection to the architect’s legacy.

The largest gathering took place at the intersection of Passeig de Sant Joan and Rosselló Street, with the participation of some of the city’s most representative giants, including the Giants of the City, El Pi, Santa Maria del Mar, and the Sagrada Família. One of the most symbolic moments of the day took place there: the presentation of the bouquet carried by the Antoni Gaudí giant from Riudoms to the giantess Violant of Hungary.

The parade concluded at the Nativity Façade of the Sagrada Família, where all participating groups gathered.

The welcoming ceremony included institutional speeches and the presentation of the participating groups, followed by a display of traditional culture featuring performances by the Giants of the City and the Giants of the Sagrada Família, ending with a joint dance.

The day concluded with a floral tribute at Antoni Gaudí’s tomb in the Basilica’s crypt, attended by the president of the Barcelona Giants Federation, the leader of the Giants of the City group, and the leader of the Sagrada Família Giants group.

This special celebration was promoted by the Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera–Casa Milà, and the Passeig de Gràcia Association to honor Gaudí’s legacy and the popular culture that forms part of our identity.
