Popular culture groups from the neighbourhood and the city came together this Saturday, 19 September, to offer a celebration of Catalan popular culture.
The day began with an address by Rosa Maria Alsina, Vice-President of the Board of Trustees of the Sagrada Familia, who welcomed all those attending. This was followed by a festive programme of street performances in front of the Nativity Façade. Representatives of neighbourhood organisations also attended.
The performers included Àliga de Barcelona, the city’s emblematic ceremonial eagle; Gegants de Ciutat and the Sagrada Familia giants; Esbart Gaudí, which performed traditional Catalan dances; the Castellers Sagrada Familia, who raised their human towers; the Farfolla creatures, featuring figures from Catalan popular culture; and Bestialots Espurnats, who performed their traditional devils’ dance.
The event was organised in collaboration with the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona (ICUB), the District, the Basilica and the Coordinadora d’Entitats.
