angle-left The Sagrada Família celebrated Christmas with activities for all audiences

This Christmas, the Sagrada Família offered a programme of liturgical celebrations and events to share with the public and collectively soak up the Christmas spirit.

Among the initiatives was the Christmas workshop for children aged 6 to 12, which combined a guided visit focused on the Nativity façade, during which they had to solve a number of challenges to learn about the meaning of Christmas and its traditions. Afterwards, they could put their creativity to the test in an artistic activity, decorating and assembling their own nativity scene to take home a very special Christmas keepsake.

On Friday, 12 December, the traditional Christmas Concert was held, attended by 1,036 people. This year there was a performance by the Gran Teatre del Liceu Orchestra and Choir, who performed a selection of works ranging from Gregorian chant to pieces by great composers such as Bach, Saint-Saëns, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Vivaldi, Händel, concluding with the most classic and traditional carols such as El noi de la mare, Silent Night and Joy to the World. 400 tickets for two were raffled for the general public.

Furthermore, on Friday, 19 December, there was carol singing, with over 300 children from various children's choirs that are part of the Secretariat of Children's Choirs of Catalonia. The singers performed a concert in four movements, each related to a scene of the nativity of Jesus. The chosen carols allowed for a musical journey through the Annunciation, the Nativity, the Adoration, and the Christmas celebration, including traditional carols such as Fum, fum, fum and Frozen December, among others.  Mr. Esteve Camps, delegated president, addressed a few words to the singers and the audience in attendance and wished them a Merry Christmas. At the conclusion of the event, a gift was presented to the participating choirs.

With the aim of sharing the Christmas spirit with the citizens of Barcelona, from 30 November until 6 January, the Basilica illuminated sculptural groups on the Nativity façade, the Adoration of the Shepherds, and the Adoration of the Magi.

On 24 December, at 7 pm, the Sagrada Família hosted the Midnight Mass, especially designed for families and children to celebrate the arrival of Christmas. The mass was officiated by Mons. David Abadías, Auxiliary Bishop of Barcelona.

From 22 December to 6 January, inside the Basilica, in the Glory area, visitors enjoyed a digital Christmas installation inviting the public to explore and discover the symbolically rich details of the Nativity façade, designed by Antoni Gaudí. This experience brought the beauty and meaning of the façade closer to visitors, transforming it into a Christmas celebration brimming with art and spirituality. The installation was presented inside the Basilica due to the ongoing works outside, on carrer Marina.

With this programme, the Sagrada Família has once again become a meeting and Christmas celebration space for all audiences.
