angle-left Sagrada Família and Barcelona celebrate 144 years on same path with exhibition at Palau Robert

The gardens at Palau Robert hosted the inauguration of the exhibition “The Sagrada Família and Barcelona. 144 years on the same path”. It highlights the deep, ongoing ties between the Temple and the city over more than a century.

The display is a visual journey through a curated selection of photos to discover how Barcelona and the Basilica have evolved side by side. Through a chronological narrative, the exhibition connects the Sagrada Família’s major construction milestones to the city’s social, urban and cultural changes.

Each panel features a multifaceted vision of the two elements, integrating architecture, society and spirituality to show how the Temple has grown alongside its surroundings to become a shared symbol and a collective project that spans generations.

The inaugural event featured Palau Robert Director-General for Public Outreach Elisabet Valls. Marta Otzet, director of Culture and Social/Educational Actions at the Sagrada Família, led the event. Other participants included Esteve Camps, Executive Chairman of the Junta Constructora de la Sagrada Família Foundation, and Mons. David Abadías, Auxiliary Bishop of Barcelona. President of the Government of Catalonia Salvador Illa gave institutional closing remarks also accompanied by authorities and representatives of key institutions in the city. In addition, it was attended by members of the Gaudí Council.

The exhibition is open to all, free of charge, and will be on through 26 July in the gardens at Palau Robert. This initiative is part of the programme of events for 2026, a particularly meaningful year for the Basilica as it coincides with the commemoration of the hundredth anniversary of Antoni Gaudí’s death.
