angle-left Sagrada Família participates in lectures as part of course on Antoni Gaudí in Comillas

The Sagrada Família was part of a summer course called “Gaudí en Comillas. Génesis del orden invisible” (Gaudí in Comillas. Genesis of the invisible order) offered through the University of Cantabria CIESE-Fundación Comillas. Junta Constructora de la Sagrada Família Director of Culture and Social/Educational Actions Marta Otzet and Mauricio Cortés, an architect from the technical office, participated in a closing panel discussion titled “La Sagrada Familia: Alfa y Omega del orden invisible” (The Sagrada Família. Alpha and Omega of the invisible order). The course brought together art history and architecture experts, as well as cultural-management, heritage and tourism professionals.

The panel discussion looked at the Sagrada Família through a contemporary lens, as a living work that continues to develop based on Antoni Gaudí’s vision. Through architecture, nature and the symbolism of the tower of Jesus Christ, the event delved deeper into how Gaudí created a unique architectural experience using an invisible order: the logic that, despite not being explicitly visible, is the backbone of his work. The session also discussed the Basilica’s role today as a space for spirituality, a universal cultural heritage site and an agent for cultural, educational and social change, reflecting on its challenges and mission for the 21st century.

This course, organised for Gaudí Year, was a chance to delve deeper into the architect’s ties to Comillas, closely linked to El Capricho, one of his first works. This building is one of the first places the architectural principles that would define his later works began to take shape.

The Sagrada Família’s participation in this event also bolsters the collaboration agreement between the Basilica and Gaudí’s houses in Spain that was signed a year ago.
