The Sagrada Família’s Nativity façade was lit up in green on 22 October to commemorate International Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Awareness Day. This action was carried out in collaboration with the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Association.
Every year, the Sagrada Família takes part in a number of different social and charitable initiatives by lighting up the Nativity façade. This year, it has done so on three occasions: 2 April, for World Autism Awareness Day; 9 October, for World Sight Day; and 22 October, for International Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Awareness Day.
Furthermore, on 22 March, the Sagrada Família also joined the global Earth Hour initiative, completely turning off the lighting of the star and the Nativity and Passion façades to show its commitment to the fight against climate change.
