On 12 February, the feast of Santa Eulàlia, at 5:45 am, Mons. Antoni Vadell i Ferrer, Auxiliary Bishop of Barcelona and Vicar General, passed away after a long illness.
On 19 June 2017, his appointment as Auxiliary Bishop of Barcelona was announced. His Episcopal ordination was held on 9 September 2017 at the Basilica of the Sagrada Família in Barcelona.
The Barcelona Archdiocese will announce the date of the exequies in Barcelona and following tributes on Mallorca.
