angle-left First anniversary of finishing all four towers of the Evangelists

This year, 12 November is the first anniversary of a historical celebration for the Basilica of the Sagrada Família: completion of the four towers of the Evangelists. The celebration included a mass, blessing of the towers and illumination of their pinnacles for the first time. The people could follow the event from the streets of Barcelona.

Each tower represents one of the evangelists and is topped with a winged figure of the tetramorph designed by Xavier Medina-Campeny. The tower of Matthew has a human figure and John, an eagle. The Evangelist Mark is represented with a lion and Luke, an ox.

The towers are currently lit up until 10:00 pm, along with the star on the tower of the Virgin Mary.

Toward completion of the tower of Jesus Christ

One of the next important milestones in the construction of the Sagrada Família is to complete the tower of Jesus Christ in 2025. The final panel is expected to go on the tower in late 2024, the twelfth level, before work starts on the last part of the tower: the cross pinnacle.
