First drawing contest at the Sagrada Família - First drawing contest at the Sagrada Família

On 18 November, there was a drawing contest for art students aged 16 to 25 called “Drawing the towers of the Sagrada Família, en plein air”.  

The contest helped participants discover the Sagrada Família through drawing, outdoors, kicking off a new series on how to represent this highly emblematic building. The focus wasn’t on the end result of the drawings, but on what can be learned about the building during the process, getting young people involved so they could experience the Sagrada Família and express their impressions through art. 

There were three categories, grouped by age: 16 to 17 year olds, 18 to 21 year olds and 22 to 25 year olds. In total, 70 people entered the contest. The contest judges were Mr Jordi Faulí, head architect of the Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família; Mr Enric Passolas, member of the art and models workshop, and Mr Jordi López Carrera, representing the Coordinadora d’Entitats de la Sagrada Família.  

On Saturday morning, participants had over two hours to complete their drawings. Afterwards, as the judges met to deliberate, they were taken on a guided tour of the Temple led by an official guide.   

The awards ceremony was held in the cloister of Our Lady of Mercy and recognised three winners, one per category, and three runners-up.
