Sagrada Família building permit issued

Junta Constructora del Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família now has a building permit for the Temple after it was issued by the Barcelona City Council in a formal ceremony held in the Saló de la Ciutat at City Hall. The ceremony to issue the permit was presided over by Executive Chairman of the Junta Constructora Esteve Camps and Second Deputy Mayor Janet Sanz.
This ceremony officially legalises the building permit that the Temple applied for in 1885, and marks the end of two years of teamwork by the City Council and the Sagrada Família. Last October, the two institutions signed an agreement to legalise the building permit, which included drafting a special plan including all of Gaudí’s project, but leaving the execution of the narthex on the Glory façade for a later phase. The plan was approved by the Barcelona City Council in late February and this past June, the government granted the permit.
At the same time as the building permit, the Sagrada Família has also obtained a business licence for the Basilica. So, the Temple’s main activity is as a centre of worship open to the public, including a section used as a museum, and its use is religious and cultural.
