angle-left Central element of cross on tower of Jesus Christ installed

Today the second element of the cross has been put in place on the tower of Jesus Christ at the Sagrada Família. The first piece to go in was the lower arm, on 30 October.

This new part is the core of the cross. It is an element with six octagonal sides connecting the arms of the cross. It has curved surfaces with ceramic triangles to blend smoothly with the arms. Each side of the piece measures 4.70 metres and it weighs 16.50 tonnes in total.

The installation of the core on top of the lower arm is another step towards completing the tower of Jesus Christ, the tallest of the central group of towers. Coinciding with the hundredth anniversary of the death of Antoni Gaudí, this will be a historic milestone for the Sagrada Família and a tribute to its architect. There will be commemorative events held all year. The programming is available on sagradafamilia2026.org.
