The Junta Constructora has signed two agreements with “la Caixa” for the latter to loan the Basilica two models to help explain and share the project of the Sagrada Família and its history. One of them is the polyfunicular model, which has been on display at the Temple museum for some time now, and the other is a model of the Schools, which will soon be on display in that building. The pieces will be on loan for twenty years, over which time the Junta will be responsible for preserving and properly displaying the models.
The agreement was signed by Executive Chairman Esteve Camps and General Director Xavier Martínez, on behalf of the Junta, and by Deputy General Director Elisenda Duran, for “la Caixa”. Also present at the signing were Basilica Director of Communication and Branding Marta Otzet, Head of Heritage Items Núria Grau and “la Caixa” Director of Culture Ignasi Miró.
The polyfunicular model is a 1983 reproduction of Gaudí’s inverted model, which has been lost, designed to work on the project for the church at Colònia Güell. Many of the solutions Gaudí experimented with using this model were later employed at the Temple of the Sagrada Família, such as the inclined branching pillars and the hyperbolic paraboloid surfaces.
