The award recognises the use of technology, and specifically geometry and mathematics tools, that made it possible to build and put in place the star on the tower of the Virgin Mary.
The award was presented today, 22 April, at 11:30 am in a public ceremony hosted by the Institute of Catalan Studies with Mr Esteve Camps, Executive Chairman of the Junta Constructora, and Dr Jordi Faulí, head architect of the Sagrada Família works.
Foundation Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer, established in 1983 and integrated into the Institute of Catalan Studies in 1991, has awarded this prize since 2008 in order to raise awareness of reports or activities focusing on any aspect of maths in the Catalan Countries.
