intro falcons
In 2003, a pair of adult peregrine falcons nested in the towers of the Sagrada Família as part of a project to reintroduce this species that the Barcelona City Council and Galanthus Natura launched in 1999. The Basilica was chosen for this initiative because it was one of the last places these birds nested and fledged chicks in Barcelona before disappearing. For over 20 years now, come spring, the falcons lay their eggs in their nest at the Sagrada Família.
To share and raise awareness of the fledging falcons, usually in March and April, a webcam has been installed in their nest.
