This Friday, the Sagrada Família opened its doors for the traditional Christmas Concert. So people could take part and share in the Christmas spirit, a draw was held to give out 350 tickets for two.
Before the concert, Cardinal Joan Josep Omella i Omella, Archbishop of Barcelona, welcomed the audience and wished them all a Happy Christmas. Mons. David Abadías, Auxiliary Bishop of Barcelona, and members of the Foundation's Board of Trustees also attended the concert.
The concert featured Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès and Orfeó Català, conducted by Salvador Brotons. It kicked off with The Nutcracker by P. I. Tchaikovsky and Johann Strauss’ The Blue Danube, two classical pieces that captivated the audience. The concert continued with A Christmas Festival by Leroy Anderson and excerpts from Georg Friedrich Handel’s Messiah before moving on to La Nit de Nadal by Joan Lamote de Grignon, an emblematic Catalan piece. The evening culminated with some traditional Catalan Christmas carols, including El vint-i-cinc de desembre, El noi de la mare and El desembre congelat. At this point, the audience was invited to sing along with the choir.
The Christmas Concert is part of the Basilica’s programme of religious services and activities to celebrate Christmas. Check out all the events at sagradafamilia.org/en/christmas
