Since 2003, a pair of adult peregrine falcons have been nesting at the Sagrada Família as part of a project to reintroduce this species that the Barcelona City Council and Galanthus Natura launched in 1999. The Basilica was chosen because it was one of the last places these birds nested and fledged chicks before disappearing. Between 2005 and 2020, 42 chicks have been born here.
