angle-left Sagrada Família installs digital art projection created with AI for Sant Jordi

The Sagrada Família is celebrating the feast of Saint George, or Sant Jordi - patron saint of Catalonia, by opening its doors again to share this important day with the public.

This year, the Basilica is offering an after-hours guided tour on the eve of Sant Jordi, and visitors will get to discover a digital art installation next to the sculpture of Saint George by Josep Maria Subirachs. Plus, like every year, Jordis and Jordines from all over the world can visit the Basilica for free with a guest.

Art installation created with AI, for the first time at the Basilica of the Sagrada Família

For Sant Jordi, the Sagrada Família will install a digital art projection called Rosa, Rosae, created with artificial intelligence specially for the occasion based on the values of innovation and creativity.

It is an innovative, original piece of digital art that combines shapes from a rose inspired by Gaudí’s architecture, using artificial intelligence. Projected on a huge LED screen, the art piece is in direct dialogue with the sculpture of Saint George by Josep Maria Subirachs. The visual piece is accompanied by a composition for organ to create an artistic experience full of shapes, colours and music.

Creation of the piece started with a database of hundreds of pictures of roses and Gaudí’s architecture (techniques like trencadís mosaic, shapes and materials from his work, etc.). Then new images were generated using various artificial intelligence tools.

This installation will be on display from 22 to 27 April.
