angle-left Christmas from the heart of the Sagrada Família

The Basilica of the Sagrada Família is offering a programme of celebrations and activities to share with the people and enjoy the Christmas spirit together.

It includes religious services, workshops and concerts for everyone, old and young, to experience the symbolism of this very special time of year. The events will take place from 30 November through 6 January, giving people the chance to connect with Christmas culture and traditions.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT, ENTER NOW TO WIN ONE OF 400 TICKETS FOR TWO

The traditional Christmas Concert will be held on Friday 12 December at 7:00 pm. This year the concert will feature the Orchestra and Chorus of the Gran Teatre del Liceu. They will perform a selection of pieces ranging from Gregorian chants to works by great composers such as Bach, Saint-Saëns, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Vivaldi and Handel, before finishing off with classic Christmas carols El noi de la mare, Silent Night and Joy to the World.

As we do every Christmas, the Sagrada Família will hold a draw to give out 400 tickets for two to this concert. To enter, fill in the form HERE between 1 December at 10:00 am and 4 December at 9:00 pm.

The concert can also be followed via streaming HERE

ILLUMINATION OF SCULPTURE GROUPS ON THE NATIVITY FAÇADE

To share the Christmas spirit with everyone in Barcelona, the Basilica will light up the sculpture groups of the Nativity, the Adoration of the shepherds and the Adoration of the Magi on the Nativity façade. They will be illuminated from 30 November to 6 January, from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm.

DIGITAL INSTALLATION: A FAÇADE BORN FROM WITHIN

From 22 December to 6 January, in the Glory area inside the Basilica, visitors will get to enjoy a digital Christmas installation inviting people to explore and discover the symbolism-filled details of the Nativity façade designed by Antoni Gaudí.  This experience reveals the façade’s beauty and meaning to visitors, making it a Christmas celebration full of art and spirituality. Due to public works on Carrer de la Marina, the installation will be set up inside the Basilica.

CAROLLING WITH CHILDREN’S CHOIRS

On 19 December at 7:00 pm, this year’s Christmas carolling will feature 300 boys and girls from children’s choirs performing a concert in four movements: the Annunciation, the Nativity, the Adoration and finishing off with a celebration of Christmas featuring traditional Christmas carols. Due to public works on Carrer de la Marina, the traditional Christmas carolling will take place inside the Basilica, with the singers’ families in the audience.

FAMILY CHRISTMAS WORKSHOP

Once again this year, the Sagrada Família is offering a Christmas workshop for families with kids aged 6 to 12. With this activity, the little ones will be able to experience the spirit of Christmas at the Basilica. During the fun guided tour, the children will get to explore the Nativity façade, discover the Temple and solve a series of puzzles to help them understand the meaning of Christmas and its traditions. Afterwards, they will put their creativity to the test with an art activity, decorating and assembling their own crèche to take home as a very special souvenir of this Christmas. Sold out.

MIDNIGHT MASS

On 24 December at 7:00 pm, the Sagrada Família will host Midnight Mass for the little ones to celebrate Christmas and the arrival of Jesus. The ceremony will be led by Mons. David Abadías, Auxiliary Bishop of Barcelona.

Tickets can be collected at the Sagrada Família pastoral secretariat (Carrer de Sardenya 318 - crypt entrance) from 15 December, until capacity is reached. It can be watched live HERE.
