angle-left Choirs from Raval neighbourhood perform Christmas carols

On Tuesday 19 December at 6:30 pm, there was carolling on the Nativity façade, which features a crèche sculpted in stone and the sculpture groups of the Nativity, the Adoration of the shepherds and the Adoration of the Magi.

More than 280 singers of all ages from choirs in the Raval neighbourhood took part. Each choir prepared a repertoire of traditional Catalan carols and songs from around the world, which they performed in several turns.

The first choir to take the stage was Cor Turull with Mary, Did You Know? and the popular Fum, fum, fum and then KorraVal Evolution sang Cançó del timbaler. After that, Cor de Dones de Xamfrà performed the lullaby A la nanita nana and Navidadau, a traditional Bolivian song. Then Dona Gospel performed Amazing Grace and Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and Món Raval, Jo tinc una xupa and Al trineu-marxa dels reis. Then came Girasol with Joia en el món and Allà en un pessebre, and Cor Drassanes performing a Christmas medley. Les Flors de Maig and TrencaCors performed the popular German song Dolça cançó de la nit de Nadal and El dimoni escuat and Kudyapi sang the traditional Filipino song Pasko Na Naman and Gettin’ in the Mood for Christmas. The final group to take the stage was Musicals’ Choir with the popular Ukrainian song Carol of the Bells and Almost Christmas. The evening finished off with the traditional Santa nit performed by all the choirs together.

As part of the collaboration, the Sagrada Família gave the choirs a guided tour of the Basilica so they could get a first-hand experience of the Temple.

The Christmas carolling is part of the programme the Basilica has prepared to invite the people to experience the spirit of Christmas. Check out all the activities here.
